One of the owners of Tulsa’s only professional basketball team announced plans to relocate to another state.
Monday, Tulsa Shock majority owner, Bill Cameron, announced plans to move the team to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He asked the WNBA to submit the request to the Board of Governors for approval.
“I am thankful for the support we have received from the city of Tulsa, Mayors Taylor and Bartlett, local fans and sponsors over the last six years. I appreciate the Tulsa investors who stepped up at a critical time to help me bring the Shock to Tulsa from Detroit in 2010,” Cameron said.
He said it was a difficult decision, but necessary to evaluate options to place the team and organization in the best position to achieve financial success. Cameron said he believes the Dallas-Fort Worth area has great potential for the organization’s long-term success.
In a letter addressed to Mayor Bartlett, Cameron said that the Shock have had consecutive years of operating losses since starting in Tulsa.

He continued to say, "north Texas, with its diverse economy, large sponsorship base and large media market represents the best opportunity for the financial future of the organization."
Cameron said the team will play the remainder of the 2015 season at the BOK Center.
