Fire crews responded to flames at a car wash at the Phillips 66 station on Highway 75 in Bartlesville Wednesday night.
The building was still smoldering several hours after the flames were put out. Firefighters said the car wash building was already engulfed when they got there around 6:30 p.m. They said the fire was coming out of both ends of the car wash.
No one was in the building and authorities evacuated the store right next to it, so, thankfully, no one was hurt.
Fire officials said the difficulty, now, is dealing with the building since part of it is made of wood.
“It's pretty much a concrete structure, concrete block structure with a wooden truss flat roof on it. The fire's gotten up between the tin roof and the wooden structure underneath. It's kind of difficult to get to it to finish putting it out," said Bartlesville Fire Chief John Banks.
Firefighters had to work to peel off the tin from the roof so they can get to the last few hot spots.
Investigators are now looking into how and where the fire started.
