A Creek County grass fire finally is under control north of Highway 33. Sapulpa and Kellyville firefighters had to ditch their trucks to fight it.

Several acres still are smoldering. Firefighters say it was a challenge not because of the wind, but also because of the trees.

For 5 hours crews worked to get the fire contained.

They had brush trucks and engines on standby but couldn't use them. For hours the fire burned inside the tree line, so crews took to the threes with rakes, backpack blowers and pump cans to get it under control.

They said the burned area mainly is confined to an oil lease. There are a few houses around but none were damaged.
