Sapulpa firefighters say a hearing-impaired woman escaped a house fire Tuesday morning in the 100 block of West Bryan. Fire Chief David Taylor told News On 6 the woman smelled smoke and began having difficulty breathing so she fled the home around 5:45 a.m.

Neighbors gave the woman shelter as firefighters arrived on scene.

"We're trying to determine the cause right now," he said.

The woman believes a heater at the back of the house may have caused the fire, but investigators were called to the scene to determine the official cause. Most of the damage was to the rear of the house.

"I'm sure there's a lot of smoke damage," he added.

Taylor said the woman was very upset and probably inhaled some smoke. She was being checked out by medical personnel at the scene, but the chief didn't think she'd have to go to the hospital.
