We're getting our first look at a major new feature of The Gathering Place - the tunnels along Riverside Drive.
The tunnels will take traffic on Riverside Drive underneath the park.
For now, they're above ground, built on top of where the old Riverside Drive is - and when they're done, they'll be buried.
The concrete tunnels are each two lanes wide, north and south, each the length of a football field and there will be two sets of them.
For people in the park - the cars will be practically hidden.
For drivers - a path through - and under, a forest.
“The picture that you will have coming down Riverside Drive will be totally changed,” project manager Jeff Stava said. “And on each side of the land bridge you will have large berms with wildflowers growing on them, so it will be a beautiful park-like drive down Riverside Drive.”
The park will open late next year, and Riverside and the tunnels will open before then, but that timeline isn't final.
From the start of construction up until now, check out all of the work that's been put into the project: Creating A Gathering Place
