Those who lost out to Vic Regalado in the primary in the Republicans for Tulsa County sheriff race are now swinging their support to Luke Sherman, the man who came in second.

"Change is only good when change is for the better,” stated Sherman. “What happened yesterday is not for the better."

Together in the primary, the men earned nearly 43,000 votes to Regalado's 33,000 votes on his own.

As they say, they represent more than a century of law enforcement experience and the majority of the Republican votes.

But the chairman of the Tulsa County Republican Party says, "They're being extremely rash and somewhat juvenile" for making this announcement the day after Regalado's win.

Regalado will finish out former sheriff Stanley Glanz's term. But the full-term job is up in November and the Republican primary is in June.

"It's time now for the June 28th primary and I don't feel like it's in my best interest, and I'm not a ‘juvenile,’ to sit back and give fair deference or sit back and wait further,” explained Sherman. “The filing period is coming. It's time.”

The filing deadline is next week and the men are determined to make Regalado's term as sheriff short-lived.

"That we get a true leader, with 18 years of experience as a leader, not three years as a sergeant who paid for rank," added John Fitzpatrick.

Regalado released the following statement:

"Tulsa County voters have blessed me with two resounding victories in the last five weeks, but politics needs to take a back seat for a while. I have a job to do."
