Tulsa's golden boy is celebrating a golden anniversary. The Golden Driller - a statue towering over Expo Square – is a symbol of Tulsa's days as the oil capital of the world.
The icon turned 50 today.
Folks turned out for quite the party in the big guy's honor.
The party included live music, commemorative items - and a very impressive cake with a 3-foot-tall edible oil derrick.
"He's really iconic, not just to Tulsa, but to the state,” Everybody knows Tulsa - The Golden Driller."
And the larger-than-life Driller isn't selfish - as money from tonight's party benefits the United Way.
