The Oklahoma State baseball team is set for its Saturday afternoon matchup against UC Santa Barbara in the College World Series, but before the Cowboys head out, News On 6 sports reporter Harold Kuntz got a chance to go one-on-one with the team’s starting pitcher Thomas Hatch for a little Q & A.
Q: How exciting is it to be an OSU Cowboy fan and watch the team go to the College World Series?
Hatch: It's really special. To be honest, it really hasn't sunk in yet. I think when we get there with the fans, walk on the part and everything, we'll feel the magnitude of what we did. We've been through so much and to be able to finally do this, it's pretty special.
Q: You played at Jenks and then you have Trey Cobb who played at Broken Arrow along with a couple of other guys who played around Oklahoma baseball and now you guys are all together for one cause, how cool is that?
Hatch: It really speaks to how good Oklahoma baseball really is. That's one thing Josh really emphasized when he came here is to get Oklahoma baseball back and get them to Oklahoma State. We all kind of collaborated and choose Oklahoma State, and for us to come here as a team and have some success is pretty special.
Q: After taking a year off due to your elbow injury, how difficult was your journey back to the mound?
Hatch: It was really hard. It was a mental journey honestly. But it was a blessing in disguise honestly, being able to sit out and really being able to sit out and take the game for what it is and not take it for granted. I'm not able to enhance my physical skills but being able to sit along and watch what Michael Freeman did, pick the minds of Rob and him and see how they go about their success is big, and it ultimately led to what I've done this year.
