Thomas Hatch had a strong showing in Oklahoma State’s College World Series opener against UC Santa Barbara, helping the Cowboys to a 1-0 win over the Gauchos.

By the seventh inning, Hatch had retired 11 batters and recorded five strikeouts while only allowing three hits and one walk.

The Cowboys took a 1-0 lead into the eighth inning after a couple of singles from Corey Hassel and Donnie Walton led to an RBI from Garrett Benge in the bottom of the fourth.

OSU held onto its lead to advance in World Series play. The Cowboys will next face the winner of Miami and Arizona on Monday at 6 p.m.

"I think it was pretty clear that both the men that took the mound today were dialed in," OSU head coach Josh Holliday said. "Thomas Hatch pitched a fantastic game for us; his catcher Collin Theroux did his part behind him, and we played very good defense to help maintain that pitch count and allow Thomas to finish the game."

UCSB head coach Andrew Checketts described the matchup as "a good pitchers duel if you're into pitchers duels."
