Authorities arrested a 21-year-old father after finding his daughter floating in a park pond in Krebs early Friday.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, who was asked to investigate, says Krebs Police had been searching for Devin Sizemore and the 2-year-old girl since Tuesday. Early Friday, police learned both were at Choctaw Park in Krebs.
OSBI says Sizemore picked his daughter up from the child's mother on Tuesday. OSBI says the family became concerned when Sizemore started acting strangely and missed a court hearing Thursday.
Investigators say family reported Sizemore saying his daughter was with God. Police got a tip Sizemore was at a park in Krebs around 4:30 a.m.
OSBI says a Krebs officer heard Sizemore yelling at private pond near the park, heard screams and found the girl floating in the pond. The OSBI says the officer jumped in the pond, got the child out and began CPR.
The officer also found Devin Sizemore nearby and tried to arrest him. The OSBI says that is when Sizemore attacked the officer and tried to drown him in the pond. A Pittsburg County Sheriff's deputy who had also responded to the park was able to assist with the arrest of Sizemore.
The child was taken to a McAlester hospital where she was pronounced dead. The police officer was also taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The OSBI says Devin Sizemore was booked into jail on a first-degree murder complaint. They say the state Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death, but investigators believe her father drowned her.
Court records show Sizemore was charged in May with domestic assault and battery.
