A man who was reported missing has been found dead in an abandoned SUV in Tulsa County, according to the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. Investigators were called to the scene about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Tulsa county representatives said they found the victim's body in the passenger seat of the SUV near 61st street north and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Deputies said the victim is a man in his 40s and he was reported missing out of Tulsa. TCSO said they aren't releasing his name until his family has been notified.
Deputies said a woman walking down the street noticed the car sitting back in the empty field behind a lot of trees. The woman told her son, who went to check it out and discovered the body.
Investigators said it's difficult to tell how long the man has been there, but it's likely been several days or possibly even weeks.
They say it looks like he's been shot, but aren't sure if this is where the shooting happened or if someone left him here. Tulsa country representatives say the city and county as a whole have experienced a lot of death recently and when it comes to telling family members it never gets easier.
"Our chaplain has been notified and they are going to have to get an official notification, and any of these detectives on this scene will tell you this is the hardest part of their job. So this is also where the work begins for us. We speak for the victim and we try to get justice for them," said Casey Roebuck of the TCSO.
Tulsa County representatives said they are waiting to release the victim's name because they want to tell his family first.
Although Tulsa Police have been working the missing persons case, deputies will handle the investigation.
