Tulsa County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a Sperry man they say beat another man with what appeared to be a hammer and shot the victim as well. Steven Ray Bozworth was booked on complaints of shooting with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon.

An arrest report said callers reported seeing a man on top of another beating him with a weapon outside a car wash at 6500 North Peoria late Saturday night, September 24. Deputies said the victim had already been taken to the hospital when they arrived, but they found a large amount of blood on the concrete, .22-caliber bullets, about three spent .22 cartridges and a magazine loading rod for a .22-caliber rifle.

They talked to two witnesses who described seeing a man hitting the victim with an object, possibly a hammer, according to an arrest report. One witness told law enforcement he thought the man struck the victim about 50 times; a second witness said he thought it was about 20 blows. Deputies said one of the witnesses threatened the suspect with a golf club and told him the police were coming.

Authorities interviewed the victim who had "significant blunt force trauma to his head," the arrest report states. "In addition, medical staff discovered a gun shot wound to his right side."

The victim told deputies Bozworth, 50, was the attacker. The arresting deputy went to Bozworth's home and found him with a fresh injury to his left hand. The arrest report states two witnesses positively identified Bozworth as the attacker.

The arrest report does not state what started the confrontation between the two men.
