TPD Investigating Two Theories In Double Murder

Tulsa Police Department detectives said they are investigating two theories in the Monday morning double-murder of a man and a woman at a bar. 

A man and woman were shot and killed at the Bienvenidos Bar Al Siete De Copas club around 1 a.m. Monday. Authorities continue to search for the suspect.

Police said the first theory is that it was a drug hit and the second theory is what one witness told them, that the suspect got mad and shot two people who told him to stop hitting on the bartender.

Police said if it is a drug hit, they fear the suspect is quickly headed for Mexico.

But, if it's as simple as getting mad over a woman, he could still be in the area, although police said they believe there's more to it than that.

"It has the inklings of something a little more dastardly, maybe a little more planned than what we're looking at, so the door is wide open," said Sgt. Dave Walker with TPD Major Crimes Division.

Police said five people were in the bar. The shooter, the bartender, who wasn't injured, her two relatives she said defended her and were shot and killed, and a man who was sitting next to the shooter, but, did not come in with him or leave with him.

They interviewed the bartender and said they want to talk to the other man.

The bartender said she hid when the man started shooting, then she called a friend, who called 911, police said. 

"There's a lot more questions than answers," Walker said. 

Police said they find it curious no one had ever seen the shooter before, yet he found his way to the very small, out of the way bar. 

They said he emptied his gun into the victims, which seems overkill if it was just a disagreement over a woman.

Police said they would like to see any surveillance video from homeowners or businesses in that area, to see if the suspect or his car, were caught on tape, which might give them the lead they need to solve the case.

These are the 56th and 57th homicides so far this year in Tulsa.
