OHP Identifies Man Killed In Tulsa County Wrong-Way Crash

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a Tulsa County wrong-way crash early Sunday morning.

Troopers said 38-year-old Bryan K. Sanders of Tulsa was killed in the crash. 

The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning on Highway 75 near 76th Street North when the vehicles collided head-on after one of the vehicles was going the wrong way on the highway, OHP said.

A 1999 Nissan Maxima was driving south in the northbound lanes of Highway 75 when the vehicle struck a 2009 Toyota 4-Runner head-on, causing the Toyota to roll onto its driver's side, according to the troopers' report.

Sanders was the driver of the 1999 Nissan Maxima that was driving the wrong way. Sanders was pinned for about 22 minutes and was freed by Owasso Fire firefighters, but was pronounced dead at the hospital from massive injuries, according to the collision report. 

Samuel J. Howeth, 28, of Oklahoma City, was driving the 2009 Toyota 4-Runner and he was stable when transported by EMSA to a Tulsa hospital with trunk internal injuries, troopers said. OHP said they detected an odor of alcohol on Howeth. 

Howeth's passenger, 25-year-old Emily A. Long of Los Angeles, California, was stable with trunk internal injuries when she was transported by EMSA to a

Tulsa hospital, according to the collision report. 

Seatbelts were in use by all occupants in both vehicles. 

OHP said it is still investigating Sanders' condition prior to the crash.
