The Week 10 Wendy's Game of the Week will be a matchup between Edmond Santa Fe and Jenks for the district title.
News On 6 Sports caught up with the Trojans' head coach Allan Trimble to discuss his battle with ALS and his chance to be named USA's most valuable coach.
“The doctors are pleased,” said Trimble. “Things are going well. It's an interesting disease that affects everybody a little bit differently. Mine seems to be progressing but I'd say at a pretty relaxed rate.”
When asked how he mentally and physically battles through the disease during football season, Trimble said it has helped him in some ways.
“Getting a diagnosis with ALS, it definitely loosens things that you used to worry about, that just don't seem quite as important as they used too,” he stated. “I really think it's helped me. I'm enjoying it more. I'm enjoying my coaching staff more."
As far as being nominated for the U.S. Cellular Most Valuable Coach award, Trimble is thankful for the support.
"The amazing people you come across, you mention the Trimble Strong website, shirts, the outpouring support for me and my family and the community,” he said. It's been very, very humbling, and my family and I want to thank people for that."
OU football head coach Bob Stoops also gave Trimble a shout out on Twitter.
"I know Mike and Bob well; they check up on me quite a bit,” he added. “It might sound crazy, but I'll tell you when Bob tweets something out to his 133,000 followers, it sure helped me get a few votes."
