The deal is getting closer for a developer to build a grocery store in downtown Tulsa.

Board members with the Performing Art Center Trust approved contract terms Monday afternoon to sell the $5.5 million parking lot.

Right now these are just contract terms – nothing is officially signed yet – but, it’s a step in the right direction for those wanting to see a grocery store and more apartments on the street corner.

The entire square block across the street from Tulsa's Performing Arts Center is close to becoming downtown's newest grocery store - something people who live and work downtown have always wanted.

"I think that it's really important to have a grocery store close to an area that's really been deprived," Tulsan Ben Walker said.

Resident Jerry Tillock said, "Very much needed. There's so much development going on, so many people moving down here. The biggest complaint is there's no place to shop, so, I think this would be a great thing for downtown Tulsa."

After a year of talks, PAC Trust members are going forward with plans to sell its parking lot to an Indiana-based developer for $5.5 million.

Renderings show plans to build 240 high-rise apartments and a Reasor’s store at 3rd and Cincinnati.

Stanton Doyle, PAC Trust chair, said, "The idea is that everybody is more or less on the same page with this, so that's a satisfying feeling for all the trust (members),"

Board members did have concerns about parking for events and possible expansion, but not to worry, the plans show the new high-rise will provide 328 parking spaces in its garage.
