Former Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris is seeking the Republican nomination for Oklahoma's 1st Congressional District.
Harris was the longest-sitting district attorney in Tulsa County history, filling that role for 16 years. He worked as a prosecutor for almost 30 years, specializing in crimes against children.
“Just as I fought for families and the safety of our communities, I will be an advocate for our freedoms, our security and our jobs,” Harris said. “There is far too much at stake right now to remain on the sidelines.”
Harris held up a pair of worn boxing gloves at a news conference Monday as a symbol of fighting for people's rights. He said when he became D.A., he took the gloves around to the offices of public servants as a way to recognize them for their hard work in serving the public.
He plans to take them to Washington if elected.

"My passion is not for the power or the position," he said. "My passion is for the people. It always has been, and it always will be. I will fight for you."
Harris specifically said he will fight for the 1st Amendment right of free speech, citizen rights to religious liberties, the rights of children and veterans and their families.
Harris is married to Tiari, a doctor of occupational medicine and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. They have two grown children and are active church members.
