Tulsa Police identified the officer who shot a suspect on Thursday afternoon.
The department identifies him as Officer Jason Angel. He's been an officer for three-and-a-half years.
Angel shot Charles Day, 36, on Thursday, April 27, 2017 near 62nd and Peoria, according to TPD.
Tulsa Police said Angel recognized Day as a suspect in a shooting-with-intent-to-kill case from last month. Officers say he pulled over Day, who was riding a bike.
They say Day fought with Angel then ran away. Officer Angel tazed Day, but it didn’t work, according to the department. Tulsa Police say Day kept running and put his hand on his gun and Officer Angel shot him.
Police say Day was in critical condition at the hospital.
Officer Angel graduated from the Tulsa Police Academy on April 4, 2014. Department officials told News On 6 at the time he was a leader of the class. He told News On 6 his father had been a police officer.
