A jury convicted a Bluejacket man of being an accessory to 1st-degree and robbery.

The jury recommended a sentence of 35 years in prison for Charlee Adams, 24, in the death of 83-year-old Velma Bennett in 2015.

Adams and Chelsea Raulston had been staying with the victim until the night of the murder. Bennett had been helping the pair by feeding them and giving them a place to stay.

Neighbors said when she finally asked them to leave it led to a fight. Prosecutors said Bennett was beaten so severely the first officer on scene thought she’d been shot in the head.

Adams is scheduled for sentencing on June 30, 2017.

Raulston was sentenced in February to life in prison for murder plus 30 years for robbing Bennett.
