Deputies shut down an entire dam in an effort to catch a man charged with cruelty to animals and larceny.

Deputies say they, along with officers from several other agencies, caught James Cox on the Eufaula Dam yesterday.

Detectives say back in June they identified Cox as a suspect in a cattle theft near Apache.

Several agencies across the state tried to catch him, but each time he got away investigators say.

So, when they spotted him Wednesday, they came up with a foolproof plan to arrest him.

Detective Kevin Branscum with the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department said, “He didn't have a chance, we actually shut the entire dam down once he got on it."

Cox has been charged with larceny and cruelty to animals but faces more charges including evading law enforcement.
