Tulsa County deputies said a homeowner shot a man who tried to break into his Collinsville home.
Deputies said the suspect was trying to break into the house around 4:00 Friday morning near 131st Street North and Memorial.
The suspect, 33-year-old Kou Yang, ran away and collapsed on a nearby street. Collinsville officers found him and took him to the hospital in serious condition.
He told deputies there was a second man with him, but the homeowner said he didn't see anyone else.
Captain John Bryant with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said the homeowner was rattled after the incident.
"He was obviously very shaken up like anybody would be at this point," he said.
Deputies were on the scene for four hours.
After talking with the resident, Bryant said shooting the suspect was his only option.
"I don't think the homeowner, at this point, I don't think he was presented with any choice," he said.
The sheriff’s office said Yang lives around the corner from the homeowner but they don't believe they know each other.
Deputies said the homeowners' two children were inside sleep during the shooting but they wanted to get them away from the scene.
"They're very young so they went with grandparents to get somewhere safe and out of all this mess," Bryant said.
The investigation is ongoing.
