Good Samaritans Near Coweta Help Injured Truck Driver

A teenager who stopped to help an injured truck driver Friday talked only to News On 6 about what happened.

The accident happened near Coweta where several Good Samaritans believe the semi-truck rollover on the Muskogee Turnpike could have been deadly.

The crash happened at a time and place where it would have been so easy to say, "I'm too busy", and keep driving.  

But Terrell Daniel said no less than five people stopped to help.

Her mom, an off-duty paramedic, and at least two others had all either taken turns stabilizing his neck, pulled him from the truck, or checked him for injuries.

"My mom told him, you know, 'you need to stay calm,'" said Daniel. 

After getting him out of the flipped truck, everyone there just wanted to keep the driver talking.

"We were talking about his wife in Illinois and he was talking about how pretty she was and everything,” said Daniel.

As the ambulance was getting closer, a woman and her young, son who were in the car in front of his semi, walked up and thanked him.

They believe he saved both of their lives by swerving off the road to avoid slamming into the back of their car.

"You'd have to be there to understand how emotional it was for this woman to come up and with tears in her eyes, say, 'You saved me and my son's life today. If it wasn't for you sacrificing yourself . . . you saved us," said Daniel.

Before he left for the hospital, Terrell said the driver asked for everyone's contact information who were on scene. He said he wanted to find a way to thank them.
