A Stillwater woman was critically injured when the car she was riding in hydroplaned and crashed Sunday, September 17, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Troopers say the driver of the car smelled of alcohol.

Kindra Whitmore of Stillwater was driving southbound on the Indian Nation Turnpike around 8 p.m. around mile marker 84 in McIntosh County, a collision report states. The car hydroplaned in the rainy weather and crossed the center median, overturning a time and a half.

Troopers said both Whitmore and her passenger, 35-year-old Desirae Skidgel, were thrown from the car. Whitmore, 33, was treated and released for her injuries. Skidgel, also a Stillwater resident, was taken to a McAlester hospital in critical condition with multiple injuries, OHP states.

The cause of the collision was unsafe speed, and Whitmore smelled of an alcoholic beverage, the report states. Neither woman was wearing a seatbelt.
