Kiefer Schools was placed on lockdown Tuesday as a precaution after shots were fired nearby.
According to Kiefer Police, officers got a shots fired call in a neighborhood near downtown Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded to the home where the shots were believed to have originated and were informed by the school that a student recently expelled due to “threats that involved a firearm” lived at the home.
Police said they knocked on the door but no one answered. They said the school contacted the parent of the expelled child and that parent arrived.
Officers said they found two rifles and a handgun in the home. They said the parent, Jeremy Garrett, was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The student was also taken into custody, according to police, but they are discussing with the district attorney about how to proceed.
