An Oklahoma couple is bucking the trend when it comes to a traditional groom's cake.
Dustin and Heather Morehead got married earlier this spring and their life-sized buck groom’s cake stole the show.
Dustin loves to hunt, so the couple incorporated that into his groom’s cake.
Their friend and longtime baker Patricia Gail spent 40 hours creating the lifelike deer.
Gail says she used 25 different cakes and about 50 pounds of icing. It weighed between 200 and 250 pounds with the base, which was an old coffee table that had been cut down.
They transported the cake in a motorcycle trailer and she says it took four people to carry it into the reception venue.
The 9-point buck had eyelashes and its antlers were real from a deer Gail's dad harvested.
To make it even more realistic, the cake had cherry filling.
Gail started her baking career in 1977, but had never created a deer cake until the Moreheads commissioned her. And she says she's already up for another challenge.
Gail gave the couple a big discount since they're friends, but for other customers, a life-sized deer cake would cost about $2,500.
The Moreheads and Gail, by the way are from Antlers, Oklahoma.
