A Sand Springs teenager is being credited with saving his family from an early morning house fire.

Firefighters say the fire started while a mom and dad and two teenagers were asleep.

They say one of the teens woke up, saw flames, and quickly got his family out of the house.

Firefighters say the house was engulfed in flames when they arrived, but they were able to get the flames under control within minutes.

“Initially, we couldn’t make an interior attack on it just because we had so much fire,” said Captain Shelby Baughn with Sand Springs Fire Department.  “We were able to get a lot of water on it in a hurry and get it pushed back and, so, we were able to make an interior push probably a couple minutes into the incident.”

No one was hurt in the fire, but firefighters say the house is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
