Poll workers at Brookside Church got a number of complaints about a marquee outside the polling place. The sign featured a verse from Ecclesiastes 10:2:

"The heart of the wise inclines to the right,
but the heart of the fool to the left."

The church quickly took the sign down and apologized to the polling place workers, saying the choice of Bible verse was completely accidental.

One of the pastor said the sign was put up last night but said he didn't think about the verse in a political sense.

Angie Hopper said she was upset when she showed up to vote and saw the sign, and precinct workers said they had several complaints from voters.

"I think the church is better than that. Usually, they're a great neighbor - the signs are funny and I enjoy them, but this one was just the wrong joke on the wrong day," Hopper said.

"Our heart was just simply to share some scripture, which we do from time to time," said Pastor Brandon McCombs.

"Sometimes, we put funny sayings up, but that one had no ill intent whatsoever on trying to influence anyone to go right, left, up, down."

Pastor McCombs said they quickly took down the sign after seeing the social media comments, and they apologized to poll workers for the post.
