Time to crank up the A/C! Summer heat has surged back into Green Country, and it’ll be feeling more like August this weekend.

Plan for more sunshine on our Saturday, with areas of clouds thickening up at times, especially west of Tulsa. Afternoon highs will climb back into the low 90s, several degrees above normal for this time of year. Heat index values will climb into the mid to upper 90s thanks to that nagging summertime humidity, and, unfortunately, we’ll have very little cooling breeze with winds at or below 5 miles per hour. Stay hydrated if you have outdoor plans!

A few isolated downpours will be possible during the afternoon and early evening hours, especially west and south of Tulsa. It’s about a 20 percent chance for any one location (higher chances further west) and most of us should stay dry, but any activity that develops could bring some brief heavy downpours and some lightning, so just stay aware!

Expect more of the same heading into Sunday. After a nice start to the day in the upper 60s, we’ll see highs surge back to around 90 degrees Sunday afternoon with heat indices back in the mid-90s. Once again, a few of those pop-up downpours will be possible Sunday afternoon.

Summer will keep a firm grip on Green Country as we head into next week, so don’t expect a quick return to fall weather anytime soon! Outside of a few more stray showers on Monday, we’ll see afternoon highs climb a few more degrees into the 90s for the first half of the week, with heat indices creeping closer to 100 by Tuesday and Wednesday. Yuck!

Our next potential hope for a weather pattern change may come by the end of next week. There is the possibility of a cold front arriving by perhaps next Friday or into next weekend, which would usher in temperatures closer to normal and some better rain chances as well. That’s still several days out and the details are far from set in stone, so check back in with us over the next several days for more updates.

Have a wonderful Saturday, Green Country! Stay cool! Be sure to follow me on Twitter @StephenNehrenz as well as my Facebook page Meteorologist Stephen Nehrenz to stay up to date with the very latest!
