EDITORS NOTE: Other tenants at City Plex Towers are not connected to Pinnacle Specialty Hospital.
A Tulsa hospital was shut down last month and employees say the owners left them not only without a job but without money they'd already earned. Former employees at Pinnacle Specialty Hospital said the company owes them three checks after the company closed the hospital doors with almost no notice.
Certified Nursing Assistant Brooke Hattaway and Registered Nurse Dwayne Purdum said last month, their worlds were flipped upside down.
"It's a nightmare. It's truly a nightmare," said Hattaway.
On November 1st, they didn't receive their paychecks from Pinnacle Specialty Hospital. The owners blamed an issue with payroll.
"We had patients in the hospital, so we decided to do the better thing and go to work, and hope they did the better thing and paid us," said Hattaway.
Soon after, Hattaway said the hospital was put up for sale and a potential buyer showed interest. But within a couple of days that deal fell through, and the hospital was closed.
"Just hitting everybody ... everybody really hard," said Dwayne Purdum.
They said all the employees were left high and dry, missing paychecks for hundreds of hours of work.
"I have five children and a husband, and it doesn't run on one income. It runs on two. And we'd already earned that money," said Hattaway.
A group of employees have hired an attorney and sent a letter to the former owners Keven Partin and Danny Ferguson, demanding their unpaid wages.
"I've had to get loans from friends to pay bills and do things. And that loan's due," said Purdum.
Purdum said the last thing they want is a lawsuit. They simply want to be paid the money they earned.
“What we want is them to step up, do the right thing. The right thing by all their employees," said Purdum. "To give us what is owed. That's all we're asking for."
News On 6 reached out to Partin and Ferguson as well as their attorney for comment, but we haven't heard back.
Pinnacle is actually the second hospital to close down at the City Plex Towers. AMG Specialty Hospital also shut down at the end of 2017.
