An investigation into robocalls that encouraged people to march at the U.S. Capitol last week has led to the resignation of the Executive Director of the Republican Attorneys General Association

The robocalls in question urged people to march to the U.S. Capitol ahead of last week's riots. However, the calls did not advocate for violence or even suggest protesters should invade the Capitol.

The office of Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter said that the association's executive director, Adam Piper, stepped down on Monday after two years on the job.

The robocalls were sent by the Rule of Law Defense Fund, which raises money for the Republican Attorneys General Association.

Attorney General Hunter is on the association's Executive Board and said he did not know anything about the robocalls.

The robocall, sent last Tuesday, encouraged "patriots" to attend an event called the "March to Save America" to hear remarks from President Trump before walking to the Capitol.

Those who answered the call heard the following message:

"I'm calling for the Rule of Law Defense Fund with an important message. The march to save America is tomorrow in Washington D.C. at the Ellipse in President's Park between East St. and Constitution Avenue on the south side of the White House."

Attorney General Hunter said the calls the did not target Oklahomans.
