There is just about one month left of school, and for the first time since the start of the pandemic, students in the Western Heights Public Schools are heading back to the classroom.
Families who live on the north side of SW 15th Street will attend in-person Monday and Tuesday. Families who live south of SW 15th Street will attend in-person Wednesday and Thursday. Fridays are virtual for everyone. This means students are going to get a total of 10 days in person before the end of the school year.
This all comes after the Oklahoma State Board of Education placed Western Heights Public Schools on a 90-day probation.
Superintendent Mannix Barnes wrote up 12-page letter which was his plan of action to move the district in the right direction on things the board has had issues with, like CARES Act money spending, staff and students leaving this in-person plan for instruction.
The school district filed a civil suit against the Oklahoma State Board of Education and the state Department of Education.
All students who attend in-person learning are required to wear a mask or a face shield prior to getting on the bus and throughout the day. Students will be required to always wear their mask except for lunch, outdoor PE, recess, or athletic practice.
