The title of largest school district in Oklahoma requires a large student recruitment effort and a strong-willed person leading the charge.
“That is not by accident, we work really, really hard for that,” said Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson.
“She has been extremely supportive of the enrollment process," said TPS's Director of Enrollment Operations, Eddie Perry.
This is Dr. Johnson’s first Enrollment Expo as TPS Superintendent. She says it serves as a one-stop shop for families looking to enroll in schools within the district and learn what they have to offer.
“The fact that all our leaders are here, all our schools are represented, it gives the families more of an opportunity in one wop to see our schools,” she said.
Perry said TPS is a district of choice, meaning students can apply to attend any school in the district and that this expo offers the families a full range of choices.
“We offer the ability to go to different schools based on student need and based on school need,” he said.
Dr. Johnson says enrollment is steady despite every obstacle the district faced last year, including a change in its accreditation status. She says they are focused on what's ahead.
“We know that there’s still work to do, we’re continuously looking for ways to get better so that our families can say they’re proud to be in Tulsa Public Schools,” she said.
And she looks forward to welcoming even more students to the district.
“We want you... let’s go!” she exclaimed.
