A shooting investigation is underway Friday morning at an apartment complex in southeastern Tulsa, police say.
Tulsa Police responded to the Waterstone Apartments near East 61st Street and South Peoria Avenue after a security officer for the complex heard shots and went to investigate, found a suspect with a firearm, and fired on the suspect.
When officers arrived they tried to help the person who had been shot. EMSA and TFD arrived on the scene and took the shooting victim to a hospital. According to police, the security officer said he was patrolling in the nearby parking lot of the Tamarack Apartment Complex when heard several gunshots coming from Waterstone around 2:30 a.m.
The guard drove his marked vehicle to the Waterstone because it is one of their contracted complexes. The security guard told police saw a man walking around and asked if he heard any gunshots. The security guard told officers that the man immediately pointed a semi-automatic pistol at him and the guard shot him.
The man was shot multiple times in his torso and face, and according to TPD Lt. John Woods, and police he did not appear to fire his weapon at the guard.
Police have not made any arrests at this time and said the investigation is ongoing.
