MAYES COUNTY -- Has a Mayes County woman had one too many when it comes to DUIs? Some Green County police officers and deputies say 'yes.'
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol records show Gayle Crisp has been arrested nine times for DUI, not all those are convictions and she has had her driver's license revoked eight times, but police say she just keeps on driving.
People tell The News On 6 she's a nice woman, but they are afraid if she doesn't stop, she's going to kill someone.
Records show Gayle Crisp has been booked into the Mayes County jail eight times. One mug shot The News On 6 found is for felony DUI and driving with a revoked license. Another was taken just one month later and her latest is from last Saturday, her most recent DUI arrest.
She was arrested for DUI in Wagoner County, although it was later dismissed.
Records show she has been arrested by Chouteau Police 10 times in the past seven years for different offenses ranging from DUI, to hit and run, to having an open container.
"Oh, we're extremely worried about people's safety. I have two children and loved ones driving down these roads, every day," said Sgt. Rod Howell, Chouteau Police.
Court records show Crisp has been given many chances -- inpatient rehab and drug court, but then relapses. She has been ordered to do community service and pay fines, but never sent to prison.
"There's no doubt that something needs to be done, up the ante, so to speak. I believe," said Sgt. Howell. "Because at this point, where does it end? Where do you draw the line?"
They say not only is it frustrating when the courts let repeat offenders walk, but also when they get their license back.
Records show Crisp's license has been reinstated eight times.
Many people feel it's a safety issue that can no longer be ignored.
"In my opinion, if something's not done and I wish the best for everybody, everybody can turn the corner, but if something's not done and she continues down the same path, it's going to be tragic for somebody, her or somebody else and that's going to be sad," said Sgt. Howell.
Crisp's attorney declined to do an interview, but told The News On 6 he has known her since she was young, she's a nice lady and he's trying to get her help.
In September, she was arrested for rear ending someone while driving drunk, then leaving the scene.
Reports indicate she almost crashed head-on into the police chief during her getaway. The judge let her out on $1,000 bond and told her not to get into driving trouble again.
When she got arrested for DUI last Saturday, the judge let her keep that same bond and let her out again.
