Voters in Claremore will head to the polls Tuesday to decide on a 1 percent sales tax already in place.
The sales tax was first approved by voters nearly half a century ago to help fund the city's police and fire departments.
Revenues from the sales tax also go to capital improvements throughout the city.
"When you look at a police and fire budget, their budgets are about $4 million each, and so they get about $650,000 each from the sales tax revenue," city manager Jim Thomas said. "So it's critical to maintain the quality of services here in Claremore."
Residents vote on the tax every six years.
If it isn't renewed, city leaders say residents could expect reduced city services due to lack of funding.
