Trailer Loaded With Cattle Crashes On Downtown Tulsa Highway Ramp

Tulsa firefighters, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers and others spent Thursday morning removing cattle trapped in a semi tractor trailer which rolled over on a highway ramp in downtown Tulsa.

The cattle truck crash happened just before 6 a.m. on the northeast corner of the IDL where the Interstate 244 ramp connects with southbound Highway 75.

Firefighters were initially called to contain and clean up diesel fuel which had leaked from the semi onto the ramp.

The OHP say there were 106 cattle in the trailer with some injured or killed in the crash. No word yet on how many survived.

Firefighters, troopers and city workers set temporary fencing so they could unload and guide the remaining cattle into stock trailers. The trailers then took them to the Tulsa Stockyards on the east side of town.

Wreckers were able to right the truck just after 2:30 p.m. Now the truck's cab and trailer will be towed away.

The OHP says the truck's driver, who worked for Smith Farms was uninjured in the crash. They say the cattle were en route to Cherokee, Oklahoma from Stilwell.

The OHP expects the ramp to be reopened to traffic sometime Thursday afternoon.
