The people behind San Miguel Middle School in Tulsa are planning to open a public charter school in August in North Tulsa.
The Tulsa Development Authority approved the school, which will be named Drexel Academy, to be temporarily located on the OSU-Tulsa campus near MLK Jr. Blvd and Jasper Street.
The final location and design for the school still is undetermined.
Drexel will have extended school days and a 10-month school year with a focus on literacy.
As with San Miguel, the curriculum will be rigorous. Unlike San Miguel, Drexel will be a secular, non-religious based.
It will serve grades K-2, and will grow by a grade per year up to eighth grade.
