Deputies in Okmulgee County say a dangerous man is on the run after he escaped from jail.
Deputies say 19-year-old Cayman Coleman was being held on a rape complaint when he escaped from the Okmulgee County Jail around 6:30 a.m.
A few blocks from the jail, residents watched a flurry of activity from deputies in the search of Coleman; and once they saw his picture they knew who to look out for.
"They were out showing the pictures and really were out in force on the streets," neighbor Beverly Walker said.
Coleman was last seen early Friday morning, running from the east side of the jail near the Okmulgee County Courthouse.
It's not clear how he escaped.
"The Violent Crime Task Force was initiated this morning in the wee hours,” Sheriff Eddy Rice said. “They have been diligent going on every lead that we had. At this moment, we're just following up on the leads."
Coleman was in jail for first-degree rape, attempted rape and sexual battery.
An affidavit says police arrested Coleman last December. He's accused of choking a woman until she passed out and sexually assaulting her. When she woke up, the affidavit says he choked and hit her until she passed out again.
"We're going to say that he is dangerous. He escaped from a facility. He's being held on rape charges, so the potential for safety issues is alarming," Rice said.
Neighbors hope he is captured soon and brought back to jail.
"Certainly hope that people will take a look at who this guy is and they'll find him pretty quickly," Walker said.
Neighbor Girtie Chadwell said, "If he's done bad stuff like that he needs to be in jail."
If you see him call 911, the sheriff's office at 918-756-4311 or the Tip Line at 918-516-8332.
