Moore Tornado Victim Says She Is Dealing With A Rebuilding Disaster

A Moore tornado victim says she's dealing with a disaster and is close to bankruptcy because of it.

She says the builder her insurance company recommended has taken more than $185,000 and she still doesn't have a home.

You can clearly see the new Plaza Towers Elementary in Becki Flood's backyard, and it’s nearly complete. She says her home was the first to be framed after the tornado. Now, more than 13 months later, she feels like her home is the eyesore.

“I have a signed document saying that we would be here by June 5,” said Flood.

Flood says she was promised by her builder, Concierge Contractors, a company based in Michigan that she would be back in her home more than a month ago. She says her Famers Insurance agent told her to prepare to move into her new home May 25, 2014.

“Here it is, this is July 21, and we’re not there,” said Flood.

Judging by the way the inside of Flood's home looks, she doesn't think it's close to being ready, and for Flood, time is money.

“The insurance has stopped paying for the apartment, so I’m having to pay for that out of my pocket. I’ve scraped enough money to pay for August, after that, I guess I’ll be homeless,” said Flood.

Flood is working two jobs. Her family's personal belongings and appliances that she’s already purchased now sit in storage.

“The dollars are adding up, and I am bordering on bankruptcy now,” said Flood. “And I shouldn’t have to deal with this.”

Flood and her daughter have even been pulling weeds from the floor of the master bedroom for the past two months.

“I call it a disaster. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with my worst enemy living here,” said Flood.

News 9 called Flood’s insurance adjuster, Casey Fechter at Farmer Insurance in Michigan who recommended Concierge Contractors.

Evan: What’s going on with her home right now?

Casey: I believe it’s being repaired. Is this conversation being recorded?

Evan: Yes.

Casey: I’m going to have to end the conversation.

Casey said he needed to contact someone in the company’s media relations department before speaking any further.

“I trusted him. I thought it would be a good company, and I’ve had nothing but trouble with them,” said Flood.

News 9 is still waiting to hear back from Flood’s builder, Concierge Contractors. She says no one from the company has been to the home since Memorial Day weekend.
