Fire Continues To Smolder At Cleveland Aerospace Facility

Cleveland firefighters are spending another day at the scene of Tuesday's explosion and fire at the ICES Corporation plant just south of town.

Firefighters have been out at the facility on Highway 64 since 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and are still working to put out the smoldering fire on the south end of the building.

Cleveland Fire Chief Ryan Murray along with the state Fire Marshal's Office showed up at the ICES Corporation facility early Wednesday.

"It's basically hitting hot spots, clearing everything, make sure that we don't have any active fire in there," said Fire Chief Ryan Murray.

The state Fire Marshal's Office has also talked with the two injured victims.

David Carter used to work for the aerospace company and still lives nearby.  He watched the fire from his house and drove by early Wednesday to see what's left of the factory.

David Carter: "We were all from around this area here and, um, had a lot of good memories."

Murray says it's a small fire department and getting help from other fire crews will keep them fresh as they focus on this investigation and containing the fire.

"Get them breaks and get fresh people in there and then, they get back in there and they start again and get some more fresh people out here and keep switching them in and out," said Ryan Murray.

The fire chief says he expects the building to continue smoldering for the next week.
