A jury found a Tulsa man guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping and other crimes Tuesday. George July was on trial for the beating death of Quinton Shaver.

Police found the 34-year-old Shaver dead inside a home in north Tulsa in November, 2013.

During the crime investigation, Homicide Sergeant Dave Walker said July had been described as a "time bomb waiting to go off."

Walker said July ruled an environment that was like a cult and involved illegal drug use.

Along with the murder and kidnapping, the jury found July guilty of possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine and resisting an officer.

A co-defendant in the case, Angel Proctor, is set to go on trial for Shaver's murder in April.
