Tulsa Police Report Several Crashes Due Slick Spots On Bridges, Roads

Authorities say bridges across the Tulsa area may be slick Friday morning because of freezing drizzle falling across northeastern Oklahoma most of the night. 

The City of Tulsa has several sand trucks out focusing their efforts on those bridges. 

Tulsa Police were busy working several crashes early Friday including one involving a police car. Police said an officer responding to a report of a crash lost control of his patrol car as he headed north in the 7200 block of South Riverside Drive. They said the car slid off the road and hit a light pole at about 1 a.m. 

The impact knocked down a power line causing police to close the road for a short time. The officer was not injured. PSO workers removed the downed power line.

At about 12:30 a.m. police said an icy bridge over I-244 contributed to a crash of an SUV. Officers said the SUV was headed north on Lewis when its driver lost control on the bridge, rolled over once and went through a fence, landing upright in a field. 

The driver wasn't injured, but a passenger who was thrown from the SUV was taken to the hospital with what police said was non-life threatening injuries.

The National Weather Service has extended its Winter Weather Advisory until noon for several counties in northeastern Oklahoma.  Counties covered by the advisory include Craig, Creek, Mayes, Nowata, Osage, Ottawa, Rogers, Tulsa and Washington.
