Some of Oklahoma's Own are getting ready for a big trip Tuesday.

Dozens of World War II veterans will fly to Washington, D.C., as part of the Oklahoma Honor Flights program.

News On 6 caught up with them Monday for their send-off ceremony.

Tuesday, they'll fly to D.C., to visit the World War II, Vietnam, and Korean War memorials.

And thanks to donations and fundraising, they'll be sending off their 1,000th veteran.

"I am profoundly appreciative of it, and I'm especially happy, because many of these people never had a chance to visit Washington, D.C.," said veteran Jim Vaughn.

There are still over 400 Oklahoma veterans on a waiting list for Honor Flights.
