OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin is asking for federal disaster assistance for Atoka County after a deadly tornado swept through the town last week.
Two elderly sisters died and 43 others were injured when the tornado struck Tushka last Thursday, April 14, 2011.
Preliminary damage assessments indicate 237 homes and businesses sustained damage, 149 of which were destroyed.

"The deadly storm led to the tragic loss of two lives and our prayers continue to be with the families who lost loved ones," Fallin said. "The storm also severely damaged or destroyed the homes of many residents and this disaster declaration is the first step in helping residents get back on their feet."
Residents who suffered damage will be eligible for assistance with housing repairs or temporary housing, if the request is approved. They would also be eligible for U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loans to repair or replace damaged property.
