With the city of Tulsa and Tulsa County endorsing a new Arkansas River development plan we wondered if other efforts to rehab Riverside Drive in Tulsa are still afloat. The News On 6 has learned that one of the most prominent plans is effectively dead in the water. News On 6 anchor Terry Hood reports a lot was made of The Channels plan to build high-rise apartment buildings in the river, but those plans are now on hold.

We learned all about The Channels plan to make the islands self-sustaining by building its own hydroelectric dam. We saw the $10 million 3D model world-renowned architect Bing Thom constructed of the river's edge, and heard about riverside businesses slated for demolition. We also learned the project would take $6 of tax money for every dollar of private investment. Many called the plan ambitious, maybe it was too ambitious.

The PR firm promoting The Channels told The News On 6 on Thursday that all plans are on hold, and the project likely won't move forward. Channels promoters say one of the biggest things standing in the way of The Channels was actually maintaining water in the river.

That's a problem the Kaiser project, announced on Thursday, solves.
