Oklahoma City is moving forward with plans to turn the Cox Convention Center into a major TV and film production studio.

Oklahoma born Actress Rachel Cannon and Oklahoma filmmaker Matt Payne are behind the plan.

They have formed “Prairie Surf Media” and say with so many streaming TV and Film productions, sound stages are at a premium.

Many productions have found homes outside California.

"Prairie Surf Media" believes the Cox Convention Center can be one those homes.

“Content creation has grown 700% since 2013. Our sound stage growth is 15%,” said Cannon, who recently moved back to Oklahoma.

Cannon has appeared in several big prime time tv shows and most recently ended a five-year run as a star on “Fresh Off The Boat.”

Payne has been a writer on shows like “Without A Trace” and “Las Vegas.”

He moved back to OKC from Los Angeles and was blown away by the size of the arena inside the Cox Convention Center.

“We want directors to come in here and build worlds, build universes,” said Payne.

The pair hopes to have a lease signed with the city by the end of the year.

That’s around the same time the new MAPS 3 Convention Center will open its doors.
