Tulsa SPCA Seeks Help After 21 Puppies Rescued In Wagoner County

The Tulsa SPCA is working to find homes for 21 puppies they rescued in Wagoner County.

The dogs were surrendered from a home outside of Wagoner. With donations to the Tulsa SPCA down, it’s an even bigger challenge to care for rescued animals right now. The Tulsa SPCA said, at the moment, it’s all about getting the new rescues a place to call home.

Chief of Staff Sabrina Darby said the SPCA as contacted by someone living outside of Wagoner last week who could no longer afford to feed their puppies. Many of them were underweight and had bite marks from fighting each other for food, so the Tulsa SPCA took in the 21 puppies.

"This person was doing good work to try to keep all of these dogs,” Darby said. “Sometimes people find themselves in that situation, they have a good heart and they just want to make sure they can take care of the dogs and it can get really expensive."

With donations down 35% this year, Darby said she hopes people will step up to help as normal outreach and fundraising operations have been halted due to the pandemic.

All the puppies have been vaccinated, tested and are ready for adoption. The Tulsa SPCA is working to get all the puppies placed with foster families. Darby said animal rescues are likely to continue, even when owners are trying to do the right thing.
