Sand Springs Police Investigate Second Murder-Suicide In 10 Days

Investigators in Sand Springs are working to figure out what led up to a murder-suicide that left a man and his two daughters dead. This is the second murder-suicide there in less than two weeks.

Police said a man called his wife at work and told her he was going to kill their two teenage daughters.

Neighbors said they are in shock, especially because this tragedy happened less than a mile away from a similar case just ten days ago.

"It's so sad,” said Candi Thompson. “I just don't know what people's thinking about killing children."

Thompson lives down the street and said she didn't know the girls who were killed but said it's emotional to think about.

“It's sad because I've got teenagers,” said Thompson.

Officers said they found two teenage girls and their father, dead inside the home and found a handgun nearby.

"The mother was at work and called and said that the father, they were on the phone together, had made a threat to kill his kids and then himself,” said Sand Springs Police Captain Todd Enzbrenner.

Enzbrenner said they tried to call the father and even tried the two daughters' cell phones, but no one answered.

“Once she got here, we got some more information that while she was on the phone, with him, she actually heard what she thought was a gunshot and he made some comment, 'How do you like that?'" said Enzbrenner.

Kanyen Cole said he just moved into the neighborhood about seven months ago. Cole is a teacher at Sand Springs and is in shock that two tragedies involving kids could happen so close to home.

“It's the second one in two to three weeks. It's hard to get your head around why something like this would happen," said Cole. 

Sand Springs Police just worked a triple murder-suicide nearby nine days ago. In that case, they say a father stabbed his two young daughters and their mother to death, before killing himself.

Captain Enzbrenner said these tragedies have shaken their department.

"Now we have six additional officers who have to deal with this tragedy, a tragedy like this,” said Captain Enzbrenner. “We have the resources to help us get through it, and we will. We're resilient, this is what we do for a living."

Investigators have not released the names of those involved. OSBI is now assisting in this investigation.
