Tulsa Voters To Decide On $414 Million Bond Package For Tulsa Public Schools

Tulsa voters will soon be asked to pass a $414 million bond package that includes four propositions.

The TPS citizen bond committee said every school in the district will receive funding if the voters approve the bond on June 8th.

“Ensuring our buildings have a safe and secure environment for the children to learn. Whether that be secure entrances, whether that be windows, HV/AC systems, roofs. As I mentioned, also books for libraries. Even digital items like Chromebooks, laptops, other computers and digital whiteboards for the teachers classrooms," said Josh Roby. 

Roby is the Chairman of the TPS Citizen Bond Committee. Tuesday, he asked the Tulsa Regional Chamber for support in the upcoming bond.

Proposition 1 is $166 million and includes more fencing, security cameras, roofing improvements, and maintenance repairs district wide. Proposition 2 is $90 million and would upgrade the district's computer software and add interactive white boards to classrooms. 

“I certainly understand that this has been a tough few months; year and a half. A lot of tough decisions by a lot of different people and as a parent we’ve had to make those decisions as well and so we certainly understand that. But for us what we believe is without these bond funds TPS would be impossible to operate," said Roby. 

Proposition 3 is more than $17 million and would replace and repair buses and ensure transportation for students in off-site programs. Proposition 4 is $139 million and focuses on STEM education, getting additional textbooks and upgrading STEM labs. Roby said if the bond passes, there will be a public oversight committee. 

TPS is holding a virtual meeting at 6pm to answer questions about the bond.
