The Black Wall Street Legacy Fest is kicking off its series of events to commemorate the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial with a Black Wall Street Memorial March through parts of Tulsa on Friday. This is the first of about 20 events happening over the next couple of days in the Greenwood District.
The march is scheduled to begin at the Greenwood Cultural Center at 10 a.m. Friday. The route and end destination are not something set in concrete, event organizers say it is a spirit-led march and they will walk wherever the head of the group feels led and for however long they feel led.
Organizers say they expect hundreds of people to attend, so anyone who is looking to attend the march should plan to arrive early.
Volunteer Kristie Williams said much of this weekend’s purpose is to continue to demand justice and reconciliation while trying to heal.
“With the 100-year commemoration coming Monday, it’s like are we ever going to do the right thing,” Williams said. “Tulsa has an opportunity to write history, w-r-i-t-e history, and to right history, r-i-g-h-t history, and I hope they do both.”

The Dedication of Pathway to Hope is also happening at John Hope Reconciliation Park just at 5:21 p.m. on Friday evening. It is the official ribbon-cutting for the new “Pathway to Hope” connecting the Greenwood District to John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park.
The event includes a march to the park and a program in the park after. Organizers say to meet at Greenwood Ave. and I-244. You can find the information by Clicking Here.
